Warranty Survey

Recently, we attended the final tow connection and sail-away of a heavy transport barge from Cape Preston, Western Australia, as the attending Marine Warranty Surveyor on behalf of DNV.

During the final loading of the tow line, a damaged synthetic tow stretcher was identified as the line came under tension. The damage had not been apparent prior to loading but became clearly visible once the tow wire lifted clear of the water.

The tow was stopped and the defect brought to the attention of all parties. A replacement stretcher was installed before the Certificate of Approval (CoA) was issued, ensuring the tow departed with a safe and compliant towing arrangement.
